PALO ALTO, Calif. - The University of Denver men's golf team shot 18-over par on Saturday at The Goodwin tournament and ended the three day event in a tie for 19th place with Colorado State. UAB and SMU were the co-winners of the tournament, each finishing an impressive 23-under par. Host Stanford was third six shots behind.
DU's Petter Mikalsen (Stavanger, Norway) had the most consistent tournament for the Pioneers. The sophomore ended his tournament at even par after a 1-under par final round. Arti Edelman (Geneva, Switzerland) was next for Denver at 12-over par for the three rounds.
"Petter played great golf again, shooting even par for the week on a good, tough golf course," said Denver head coach Erik Billinger. "He was fun to watch today as he is a complete player with very few weaknesses. He could have gone really low today as he had a lot of putts right on the edge."
In addition to team co-winners, there was an individual tie for the win as well. Maverick McNealy of Stanford and Will Cannon of UAB both finished at 13-under par to share the victory. Bryson Dechambeau of SMU finished one shot off the pace.
The Pioneers will now focus on the Hawkeye Invitational April 18th and 19th at the scenic Fickbine Golf Course on the campus of the University of Iowa.
"We are going to regroup and work hard and prepare the best way we can for Iowa in a few weeks," Billinger promised. "We will be ready to finish the season strong."
