June 16, 2015 DENVER -- Head coach Joe Scott has announced that Nate Rohnert (Parker, Colo.) and Dan Ficke (Denver, Colo.) have been named assistant coaches for the University of Denver men's basketball team. Rohnert, who played at DU from 2007-10, served as a graduate manager during the 2014-15 season. Ficke comes to DU after spending the last two seasons at Loyola University Maryland.
"We are pleased to add Nate and Dan as assistant coaches," Scott said. "Both coaches have Colorado roots. Their energy and enthusiasm will be very beneficial to our players and program moving forward."
As a member of the Pioneers, Rohnert earned All-Sun Belt Conference First Team in both the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons as well as All-Sun Belt Tournament First Team in the 2009-10 season. Rohnert is currently fifth all-time in games played (120) at Denver, fourth in free throws made (379), sixth in assists (357), 10th in steals (124) and 12th in points scored (1,306).
Rohnert graduated from DU with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 2010. Following graduation, Rohnert played professionally in Europe for three seasons and competed on teams in Estonia, Holland, France and Germany. Rohnert also played on the NetScouts Basketball USA All-Star team in the summer of 2014, in a tournament held in China.
Rohnert had a stellar career at Chaparral High School from 2003-06 where he was an All-State player in 2005 and 2006.
Ficke joined the Loyola staff after spending three seasons at Wake Forest University. In 2012-2013 Ficke served as the Special Assistant to the Head Coach/Director of Scouting and Recruiting. Prior to that, he was the program's Assistant Director of Operations from 2010-2012.
The 6-6 forward played four seasons at Loyola. Ficke was a part of some of the most successful Division I teams at the university during his time with the Greyhounds from 2005-2009. He was a member of teams that won 64 games, including the 2007-2008 team that won what was then a school Division I record 19 contests. Ficke graduated in 2009 with his bachelors in business administration and earned his M.B.A. in 2010.
The Colorado native grew up around the best in the game of basketball, following his dad, Bill, who was an NBA assistant coach and scout for the Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz and New Jersey Nets where he coached alongside Larry Brown and Doug Moe. Bill also played at Belmont Abbey College for legendary coach Al McGuire.
Ficke earned All-Colorado Second Team and All-America honorable mention honors on the prep level at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colo.
Rohnert and Ficke will be replacing former associate head coach Mike McKee and assistant coach A.J. Kuhle.
Assistant coach John Fitzgerald and Director of Basketball Operations Jon Jordan will both return for their ninth season with the Pioneers.
