Box Score Aug. 30, 2015 Wyoming 0-0 Denver
WAIPAHU, Hawai'i - The University of Denver women's soccer team shared the spoils with Wyoming on Saturday night as the two teams played to a scoreless draw at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
"I'm happy about our defensive performance out there tonight," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "I thought we had some great moments offensively before Leah (Swander) got hurt. Leah and Mary (DeWalt) linked up well in the first half. Lauren (Conley) did her job coming off the bench, creating chances, but I just thought overall as a team, we weren't sharp in the final third with our final pass."
Denver took the first two shots of the match, testing Wyoming keeper Georgia Rowntree with a Cristiana Behnken (Ogden, Utah) strike, but the opposing keeper was up to the task. Wyoming got a foothold in the game in the latter part of the first half, ending the stanza leading the shot count 5-4, and the corner kick total 4-0.
A total of 15 fouls were called in the first half, including eight on Denver. Junior Cassidy Rey (Arcadia, Calif.) was called upon to make two saves in the opening 45 minutes.
The second 45 saw Wyoming take all five shots of the period, and add three corners to its tally, but Rey and the Pioneers backline limited the quality of the chances, and sent Denver to extra time for the first time in the campaign.
Wyoming's Candace Sciberras put the only shot of the two extra time periods wide to give each team a point in their third matches.
"Cassidy (Rey) played very well, and deserved her shutout tonight," Hooker said. "She made the saves she was asked to make, and in the defensive third, I thought we did a much better job dealing with the balls they launched in the box from set pieces."
