Aug. 5, 2015 University of Denver men's golf coach Erik Billinger announced today that sophomore Michael Boylan (Patterson, N.Y.) will be joining the Pioneers for the upcoming Summit League golf season. Boylan spent his freshman campaign with the University of San Diego Toreros (West Coast Conference).
"Michael is a talented golfer with a lot of potential," says Billinger. "We believe he's a great fit for our program and we're looking forward to having him develop his skills here at Denver this coming season and beyond."
Boylan placed T-68th at the 2015 Lamkin San Diego Classic, helping USD finish fourth at the 14-team event. He also finished T-58th at the 2014 Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in Hawaii where the Toreros placed sixth out of 15 squads. The 20-year-old was named to the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll in recognition of his strong academic performance as a freshman.
Prior to enrolling at USD, Boylan attended Saint Andrews Academy in Florida where he served as the golf team's captain during his senior year. Saint Andrews' golf team went to three straight state championships and won three consecutive district titles during Boylan's tenure at the school. He won multiple tournaments, including the New York City Junior Championship, during his pre-collegiate career and was named Met PGA Junior Player of the Year in 2011.
"I'm very excited to be joining Denver's golf program," says Boylan. "The campus, coaching staff and facilities are all top-notch and I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to be a Pioneer and develop both as a player and as a person at DU."
Denver's 2015-16 season begins on Monday, Sept. 21 at the CSU Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo. Later that week, the Pioneers will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate (Sept. 24-26). Denver's full schedule can be viewed by clicking HERE.
