Thursday's contest marks the third of four 2015-16 meetings between CC and DU. The Pioneers twice defeated Colorado College earlier this season, earning a 5-3 home win on Nov. 6 prior to capturing a 3-1 victory at Broadmoor World Arena the following evening to retain the Gold Pan Trophy, bestowed annually upon the season series' victor. In conjunction with 2014-15's season sweep of the Tigers, the Pios' winning streak versus CC now stands at six games which is the eighth-longest in program history.
Despite having enjoyed significant recent success against the Tigers and owning a large lead over CC in the NCHC Standings, DU captain Grant Arnold anticipates a hard-fought series between the regional adversaries.
"Any time Denver and Colorado College play each other you can throw records out the window," the senior forward says. "Both programs have a lot of pride and it's one of the best rivalries in all of college hockey so we know we'll be in for a battle on Thursday night and again on Saturday."
