BOX SCORE

DENVER -
A late surge from Oral Roberts in overtime turned out to be enough on Sunday as the University of Denver women's basketball team dropped a 59-56 heartbreaker at Magness Arena in extra time.

In a game that they were in control of most of the afternoon, the Pioneers blew a five-point lead with 1:07 remaining in the fourth quarter that gave new life to the Golden Eagles, who were able to finally pull ahead for good in the extra period.

Jacqlyn Poss (Shoreview, Minn.) finished with a game-high 14 points for DU. The junior hit several key shots throughout the game.

Paige Bradley (The Woodlands, Texas) added 12 points to go with four assists in 42 minutes of action.

Denver came out the gate quick, using an 11-4 run to start the game going into the first media timeout. The strong start was powered by Ciera Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Bradley, who combined for nine of the 11 points.

The Pioneers closed out the first quarter with a six-point lead at 16-10, highlighted by Bradley scoring seven in the opening stretch.

In the second, Oral Roberts worked its way back into it, getting within two points after a 3-pointer from Dorottya Balla with just over two minutes remaining in the half. DU was able finish with a solid effort, pushing its lead back to eight at 30-22 going into the break.

Denver's 30 points in the first 20 minutes nearly matched its 33 total from the last time both teams played on Jan. 23.

Solid ball movement was key in the opening half, with the Pioneers only turning the ball over four times while forcing 10 from the Golden Eagles.

Denver opened the third showcasing its defense, holding ORU to just five points in the first five minutes. Jordyn Alt (North Oaks, Minn.) highlighted the low-scoring quarter with a beautiful post move late in the period, upping her total to six on the afternoon. The Pioneers ended the third with five-point lead of 38-33.

Both teams dialed up the intensity in the fourth, with each trading buckets in the early moments before settling in to their defensive rotations.

The Pioneers got back up by five late after a huge 3 from Samantha Romanowski (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) with 1:07 left in regulation. Oral Roberts, though, countered with five quick points to tie things up by forcing some key turnovers. Bradley had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but her floater was left.

In overtime, the Golden Eagles finally took control with some quick buckets to start the period. Denver would get several chances late to tie it up with a 3-pointer, but came up just short, giving ORU the victory.
