Lady Pioneers Beat Santa Clara

Santa Clara, Calif. - The 34th-ranked University of Denver women's tennis team beat the No. 72 University of Santa Clara 4-3 today at the Degheri Tennis Center in Santa Clara, Calif. The Pioneers went 2-1 in doubles action and 3-3 in singles play to improve their overall record to 13-2.
"Our non conference season has come to an end and to finish with two more Top-75 wins on the road is incredible," head coach Christian Thompson said. "Throughout the year, it has been a full team effort. When the match was on the line today 3-3, Morgan stepped up big for us. Maureen and Julia also played great tennis today winning both singles and their doubles match together against talented players."
Julia O'Loughlin (Highland Beach, Fla.), Maureen Slattery (Newport, Va.) and Morgan Barnhill (Austin, Texas) each picked up singles victories in today's match to help the Pios earn their 13th win of the season. Barnhill won the clinching point at No. 6 singles 7-6 (9), 6-3 over Zeina El Tawil (SCU).
Slattery teamed up with O'Loughlin to win their doubles match 7-5, while teammates Bianca Mok (Boise, Idaho) and Barnhill also won their doubles match by a score of 6-3.
The Pioneers will be back in action next weekend in back-to-back home matches against Summit League opponents at Stapleton Pavilions on DU's campus. Denver will host South Dakota State University on Friday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m. MT before playing Western Illinois University the following day at 12:00 p.m. MT.
"Next weekend we get into Summit League play," Thompson added. "We will continue to grow and develop our games this week in preparation for the conference season."
