DU Hosts UNO in NCHC Playoff Action This Weekend!

Winners of nine straight & owners of a 14-1-3 record (.861 W%) in 2016, the No. 6 DU Pioneers begin their quest for a National Collegiate Hockey Conference Playoff title this weekend when the No. 17 UNO Mavericks visit Magness Arena for a best-of-three postseason tilt (Friday at 7:35pm, Saturday at 7:05pm & Sunday, if necessary, at 7:05pm). Friday and Sunday's game will air live on 104.3 FM The Fan while ESPN Denver 1600 AM will broadcast Saturday's contest. All of this weekend's games will be streamed live via NCHC.TV.

Denver won all four of its meetings with Nebraska-Omaha during the regular season, outscoring the Mavericks by a combined score of 12-4. The Pioneers are now 19-9-2 all-time vs. UNO, a record that includes a 10-2-2 mark in games played in the Mile High City.

Freshman forward Dylan Gambrell has tallied a team-high 3G-4A-7P in four games played against the Mavericks this season while his 'Pacific Rim' linemates Danton Heinen (4GP-1G-4A-5P) and Trevor Moore (4GP-0G-6A-6P) are also averaging more than a point-per-game against UNO in 2015-16. Gambrell continues to lead the Pios in scoring this season with 15G-27A-42P (34GP), the third-highest overall point total in the NCHC. Moore is T-6th with 8G-31A-39P (33GP) and Heinen is T-8th with 15G-22A-37P.

During DU's nine-game winning streak, the PRL has combined to record 53 points (18G-35A), ranking 1-2-3 in the NCAA in scoring in that time. Gambrell enters this weekend on a team-high point streak at 13 games, during which time he's tallied 9G-14A-23P). Heinen is on a 12-game streak (9G-14A-23P) of his own.

The Pioneers' 9-0-0 record since Jan. 30 is the best mark in the NCAA and their +2.67 GPG margin is also No. 1 in the nation in that time. Last weekend, DU went 6-for-6 on the penalty kill and scored a power play goal against UNO in laying claim to a two-game sweep of the Mavericks. During their nine-game winning streak, the Pios are 6-for-23 (26.1%, 1st - NCHC) on the PP and 22-for-25 (88.0%, 4th - NCHC) on the PK which is the best combined special teams quotient (1.14) in the conference in that time.

Nebraska-Omaha enters the postseason on a six game losing streak and is 4-12-0 since January 1. The Mavericks' leading scoring thus far on the 2015-16 campaign is Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Jake Guentzel, who has tallied 17G-25A-42P in 33 games played.
