PROVO, Utah - The University of Denver women's soccer program fell 7-0 to [4] BYU on Thursday night at South Field in Denver's second match of a four match road swing.
Denver begins Summit League play with games three and four of its current road swing Friday, September 30 at Western Illinois (2 p.m. MT), followed by a trip to IUPUI next Sunday (11 a.m. MT).
"We were overwhelmed tonight by a Final Four caliber team, and were never really able to get much of anything going," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "We need to put this one behind us and take this weekend to think about the beginning of the second half of the season, and our first two league games next week."
Ashley Hatch put the home side ahead five minutes in, her 11th goal of the season on Paige Barker's third helper of the campaign. In the eighth minute, BYU doubled its advantage through Elena Medeiros' third of the season.
BYU made it 3-0 on 16 minutes with Michele Vasconcelos seventh of 2016 off a feed from Nadia Gomes. Just shy of the half hour mark, Gomes scored a goal of her own in the third minute off assists from Madie Lyons and former Pioneer Jocelyn Loomis.
Following a 45 minute lightning delay during the intermission, the teams resumed play on a soggy pitch at South Field.
Gomes completed her brace in the 48th minute and Bizzy Phillips Bowen netted her first of the season in the 53rd to send the home side up by six. Elise Flake completed the scoring in the 90th minute with her first of the campaign.
