COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (DENVER/NCHC) - The defending National and Penrose Cup champion University of Denver hockey team placed four student-athletes on the seven-player 2017-18 National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Preseason Team, the conference office announced on Monday. A total of 30 ballots were submitted by local media members from each school, as well as select national media.

Sophomore forward Henrik Borgström (Helsinki, Finland) led all players with 28 votes, followed by 27 votes for senior goaltender Tanner Jaillet (Red Deer, Alberta). Junior Troy Terry (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and 2016-17 All-NCHC Preseason selection Dylan Gambrell (Bonney Lake, Wash.) also earned spots.

Borgström was the NCHC Rookie of the Year a season ago, while also earning Second-Team All-NCHC honors after leading NCHC freshmen with 19 points in conference play, including 12 goals, which tied for third in the conference. Overall, the Florida Panthers prospect racked up 43 points in 37 games, ranking third nationally among freshmen in scoring, while his 22 goals tied for the NCHC lead.

Terry shared the NCHC goal-scoring lead with Borgström, also potting 22 goals, while compiling 45 points in 35 games to rank third in the NCHC in scoring and tops among returning players. In conference play, the Anaheim Ducks draft pick had 17 points (9g, 8a) in 19 games en route to Honorable Mention All-NCHC.

The third Pioneer on the Preseason All-Conference Team, Gambrell totaled 25 points in conference play a season ago, which led the Pioneers, as he joined Borgström on the 2016-17 All-NCHC Second Team. Overall, the San Jose Sharks prospect tallied 42 points, including 29 assists, in 38 games.

Jaillet was a near unanimous selection in goal after receiving First-Team All-NCHC honors a season ago when he was tabbed NCHC Goaltender of the Year and the 2016-17 Mike Richter Award winner as the nation's most outstanding goaltender. In 22 starts in conference play, he posted a 16-2-3 record with a .936 save percentage and a 1.65 goals-against average, all of which led the conference. Overall, he went 28-5-4, tying for the NCAA wins lead with a 1.84 GAA and a .929 save percentage.

Media members voted for three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender on their ballot with each vote worth one point. The top three vote-getters (and ties) at forward, top two defensemen and highest vote-getting goaltender made up the preseason all-conference team.
