DENVER – In partnership with Altitude Sports and Denver Sports Properties, the Denver Pioneers men's hockey team has announced Tyler Maun and Charlie Host will broadcast the 11 games televised on Altitude Sports & Entertainment during the 2018-19 season.
Maun enters his first season as the play-by-play voice for Denver Hockey. Since 2008, Maun has broadcasted a variety of sports on television and radio at DU, including men's basketball and men's lacrosse. Host enters his 19
th season as a color commentator for Pioneer hockey and his 14
th season as the TV analyst. The Denver Hockey alum played for the Pioneers from 1993-1997.
Altitude's coverage of the hockey and men's and women's basketball programs at the University of Denver began in 2016-17 with the announcement of a three-year television rights deal. In all, Denver and Altitude teamed-up for 25 broadcasts between the three programs.
In 2013-14, the initial agreement brokered via Denver Sports Properties, Altitude broadcasted both Pioneer men's and women's lacrosse games as a part of a newly established relationship with the Division of Athletics and Recreation.
Coverage of Denver's fall sports and gymnastics program on Altitude began in 2014-15 with a total of 31 live Altitude broadcasts from the Denver campus, including the 2014 Summit League Men's and Women's Soccer Championships, the 2015 Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Championships and the 2015 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Lacrosse Tournament. Denver produced 33 total Altitude broadcasts in 2015-16, including 26 in the fall.
Both the University of Denver and Altitude are committed to using the expanded partnership as a way to help the next generation of technical experts in the broadcasting field. In 2013-14, DU leadership committed significant resources to upgrade all of the back-of-the-house technical components to HD quality, which allowed the University to produce and oversee all elements of the broadcasts. As a part of its production crew, the University utilized DU students on many of the key technical broadcast elements to further their understanding of the field. Some of the students have now gone on to work other Altitude events as freelancers for the network.
