DENVER – The University of Denver's head volleyball coach
Tom Hogan announced the signing of four student-athletes on Thursday. The newcomers joining the team come fall of 2019 include Brianna Green, Lorrin Poulter, Kalea Fobert and Ari Winters.
Â
"We could not be more excited to welcome the 2019 class to our Denver family," said Hogan. "It is a class packed with skill at every position, and potential that is over-flowing. The hunger they have to grow their game and impact our program is exciting to see, and is a clear sign that they'll immediately fit in with our team's culture. This is a class of impressive student-athletes, and I'm confident they'll leave their mark at DU – on the court, in the classroom, and in the community."
Â
Brianna Green joins the Pioneer family as a middle blocker from Cedar Hill, Texas. During the 2017-18 season she ranked first in blocks in Dallas Fort Worth, and was named first team in her district. Green chose Denver because of the way she felt on her official visit, instantly falling in love with the city, school and program. The 6-foot-1 Texas native plans on earning her degree in Communication or Journalism, and after graduation she would like to work in sports journalism.
Â
"Brianna Green is one of the most physical middle attackers in the nation in her class," said Hogan. "Her experience with the USA Youth National Team and USA Junior National Team programs will help smoothen her transition to high-level collegiate volleyball. She has a very high ceiling, and we are eager to work with her and develop her talent."
Â
A Colorado native, Lorrin Poulter doesn't have to travel far for the next four years. Born and raised in Aurora Colo., Poulter will join the Pioneers as a setter come fall of 2019. Her senior year at Eaglecrest High School she was named MaxPreps/AVCA Player of the Week, EHS All-Tournament team and was invited to the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports. Poulter chose DU because of the high level of academics and the atmosphere that surrounded the team. The 5-foot-11 incoming freshman is still undecided on her major, but in her free time she likes to bake and go long-boarding.
Â
"Lorrin Poulter is one of the most skilled all-around players I've seen entering the college ranks," said Hogan. "She can contribute to all aspects of the game, and her volleyball IQ is extraordinary. Her experience on one of the top club teams in the country has prepared her well for the college level, and I'm excited to see her compete for her hometown of Denver."
Â
Kalea Fobert joins the 2019 freshman class as another Colorado native, coming from Parker, Colo. where she lives with her mother, Mandi, father, Thomas, and four siblings, Jackson, Jett, Keani and Kai. During her senior season at Chaparral High School, Fobert was the 5A State Champion Runner-Up, and served as the varsity team captain. Over the past eight years Fobert has competed on high level Colorado club teams where she became an All-American and made it to the AAU National competition.
Â
"Kalea Fobert is physical, smooth, and a force on the court," said Hogan. "She has an intense work ethic that will develop her huge potential. Her personality fits perfectly with the culture of our team, and she will be a dominant force well into the future of this program as she represents her hometown of Denver."
Â
Ari Winters comes to the Mile High City from Ankeny, Iowa where she played for Ankeny Centennial High School for four years. Her senior season she led the Jaguars and accomplished incredible milestones, including: being named first team all-conference, named to Des Moines Register Elite Team, State All-Tournament team, Senior All-Star team and was an AVCA Under Armor All-American nominee.
Â
"Ari Winters is every coach's dream," said Hogan. "She's extremely skilled, has a great deal of physical potential, and a work ethic that just won't stop. On top of that, she has an enthusiastic and competitive personality that is contagious. She will immediately have an impact on our program, and our staff is excited to develop her potential."
Â
Green, Poulter, Fobert and Winters will likely be joined by additional signees in the spring of 2019.
Â
"There are several other additions to this class that will be announced in the spring," said Hogan. "These gifted and wonderful student-athletes will have an immediate impact on our program and help our team take the next step as we pursue championships."
