Denver – The University of Denver women's basketball team will host Samford on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. MT in the annual Hoops for Education game.
Denver enters the Wednesday matinee at 7-4. Head coach
Jim Turgeon's squad fell to Nebraska on Saturday but senior
Samantha Romanowski scored a career-high 33 points while going a perfect 8-of-8 from beyond the arc. The senior will try and help right the ship for a squad that averages 82.7 points per game (19
th in the country) and 9.5 made 3s per game (14
th in the country). Romanowski is joined by fellow starters
Lauren Loven (15.6 points per game),
Madison Nelson (15.3 points per game),
Claire Gritt (11.5 points per game) and
Courtney Smith (11.5 points per game) who all average double-figure scoring.
Samford is just 3-8 in the early part of the 2018-19 season, having lost six of its last seven games. Head coach Mike Morris who is in his 17
th season has a defensive minded team that allows just 66.7 points per game. Samford is led by Natalie Armstrong who averages 8.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while three other Bulldogs average at least seven points. Since winning 75-54 over Presbyterian on December 2, Samford has not eclipsed the 50-point total scoring just 41, 48 and 46 points since its last win.
