Stewart-Miller lone Pioneer in double figures
SPOKANE, Wash. – The University of Denver men's basketball team couldn't stop No. 9 Gonzaga on Friday night, losing 101-40 in McCarthy Athletic Center. The Pioneers fell to 5-9 on the year, while the Bulldogs improved to 11-2.
The 40 points marked a new season low for points scored for the Crimson and Gold.
Tory Stewart-Miller finished with a team-best 10 points, the lone DU player in double figures.
GU was led by a leading scorer Rui Hachimura, who poured in game-high 23 points, 21 coming in the first 20 minutes of action.
Brandon Clarke chipped in with 23 points to go with seven rebounds.
Gonzaga fired out the gate, racing to a double-digit advantage within the first four minutes of tip, forcing Denver to take a timeout and regroup.
A short-corner jumper from Alperen Kurnaz got the Pioneers on the board.
The Bulldogs, though, didn't miss, making their first 15 shots as the lead ballooned to 28 a little over halfway through the period.
The Zags pushed their lead to 37 by the break, finishing the half shooting a blistering 84.6 percent (22-for-26).
Gonzaga cooled down in the second half, finishing the game at 68.4 percent (39-for-57).
The Pioneers made 10 of their 16 shots in the final period.
