Results LOVELAND, Colo. - Despite skiing on their home course, the University of Denver Alpine ski team had a slow start to the Denver Invitational, scoring sixth-place to open competition on Friday.

The Pioneers racked up 102.5 points in the giant slalom and currently sit 13 points behind Westminster. Earning the No. 1 spot on the day is Montana State, who earned 155 total points.

"As a team we did not perform very well today," said head coach Andy LeRoy. "We might have been a little unlucky with wind gusts, but there will always be excuses to find if you look hard enough. We expect excellence and we will learn from today."

Leading the way for the Crimson and Gold was Tuva Norbye who chalked up fourth with a run of 1:47.40.

Norbye's teammate, Amelia Smart finished five spots behind her team, tying for ninth. The freshman skied for a time of 1:47.94 and 21.5 points.

On the men's side, Tanner Farrow took eight with a 1:47.82. The Hailey, Idaho native just beat out Utah's Huston Philp.

Finishing back-to-back were Alex Leever and Jett Seymour who finished in 18th and 19th respectively. The DU duo raced for 1:48.55 and 1:28.58.

Finally, Tobias Kogler rounded out the Pioneers in 21st, with a completed time of 1:48.87.

Both Alpine and Nordic teams will be back in action tomorrow, as Alpine finishes the Denver Invite and Nordic opens competition.
