DENVER -

The University of Denver has hired Tim Murray as Assistant Sports Performance Coach, the University of Denver announced on Friday.

In his role as Assistant Sports Performance Coach, Murray will be responsible for overseeing the men’s lacrosse, skiing, women’s volleyball and swimming and diving programs.

“I am incredibly excited to announce the hiring of Tim Murray as he is one of the top young strength and conditioning coaches in the country,” University of Denver Director of Sports Performance Matt Shaw said. “His track record of success, work ethic, passion, creativity and team-based approach make him the ideal candidate to continue the success we have had with our sports programs and Pioneer Health and Performance.”

Prior to joining the University of Denver, Murray spent three years at Boston University where he worked as a graduate assistant before being promoted to Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach in July 2017. Murray worked directly with the Terriers men’s lacrosse, track and field, men’s crew and women’s soccer programs, programming and implementing training programs and using sports science integration to ensure student-athletes were reaching their maximum potential.

“I am very excited to join the strength and conditioning staff at Denver,” Murray said. “Matt Shaw and Gary Boros are an extremely knowledgeable staff and I am looking forward to learning from and working with them. I look forward to blending my past experiences with the new experience of working for this athletic department to best serve the student-athletes at DU.”

After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Endicott College in 2014, Murray worked as a Strength & Conditioning coach at Attain Therapy and Fitness and as an Intern Strength & Conditioning Coach for the University of Iowa football program. He earned a Masters of Education in Physical Education and Coaching while serving as a graduate assistant at Boston University.

While attending Endicott College in Beverly, Mass., Murray participated in varsity football and lacrosse. He later served as the Strength & Conditioning coach for the lacrosse program at his alma mater.

“We are pleased to welcome Tim Murray to our DU family,” Associate Athletic Director of Pioneer Health and Performance Julie Campbell said. “Tim’s strong background and tremendous coaching experience will be a valuable asset to our student-athletes’ development. We look forward to his immediate, positive impact in the Sports Performance department.”

Murray is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) and is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) as well as Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
