Will Butcher Named to NHL All-Rookie Team

June 21, 2018

DENVER -

Will Butcher was among five players named to the 2017-2018 NHL All-Rookie Team after leading NHL rookie defensemen with 44 points (5-39-44) in 81 games during his first season.

One season after winning the 2017 National Championship and 2017 Hobey Baker Award, Butcher posted a team-leading 39 assists to set a New Jersey Devils franchise record and rank 13th among all rookie blue liners in NHL history. The Sun Prairie, Wis. native opened the season with three (3) assists in his first NHL game, joining a group of only five defensemen in the league's expansion era to accomplish that feat and becoming the first Devils player to reach the milestone. Later, Butcher became the first rookie defenseman in league history to tally eight (8) assists in his first five (5) games.

Jason Zucker was a nominee for the 2018 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, the honor awarded to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.
