DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team fell to Colorado College 2-0 in the first game of a Colorado Cup triple header on Sunday morning at Prentup Field.
"For the second-straight match, in the last 20 minutes of the first half, I thought that we were on fire," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "We're just missing that final piece. We created a lot of chances in the first half, we've just got to get them on goal and not hit them right at the keeper. I was happy at halftime because I thought we created the better chances. We made a mistake on the goal by not getting out and leaving a player onside, and on the second goal we made another mistake and didn't have cover."
Colorado College got on the board in the 40th minute as Lucia Costanza played a Denver clearance back into the mixer to Rae Conlon behind Denver's backline, who turned and finished past junior captain Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.). Wilson made four saves in the opening 45 minutes, and the Pioneers outshot the Tigers 8-7 in the first half.
Denver's best chance of the opening 45 minutes came off the foot of centerback Christiana Behnken (Ogden, Utah), but her effort from just outside the box was tipped by keeper Jade Odam off the underside of the bar.
The Tigers doubled their advantage in the second half when Catie McDonald got on the end of a miss-cleared cross on the six-yard box and slipped it by the Denver keeper. Wilson finished the match with eight saves.
UP NEXT: Denver will return to a pair of familiar Sun Belt Conference destinations next week when the Pioneers make the trip down to Florida to take on Florida Atlantic on Thursday at 5 p.m. MT, before battling FIU Sunday at 10 a.m. MT.
