Denver Falls to Unbeaten UC Riverside, 1-0

Pioneers cap second out of state road trip of the season at Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at 2 p.m. MT

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Denver women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 result to UC Riverside on Friday night at UCR Soccer Stadium.

"I'm so happy with the effort that we turned in today, and how well we played to create the chances we created on that surface," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "Soccer's unfair, and soccer on the road especially is cruel, but I don't think we deserved that result the way we played today. We moved the ball well, and created a lot of chances, but couldn't find the final ball tonight. Give them credit though, they're very effective in the way they play, and how they defend as a team. I'm still super proud of our effort, and am looking forward to watching us compete again on Sunday. "

Denver (3-4-2) controlled the play in the opening 45 minutes, but weren't able to find the back of the net as the two teams went into the intermission scoreless. The Pioneers took six of the eight shots in the first half and put the only three shots on target of the first 45. DU also took three of the four corner kicks prior to halftime.

UC Riverside (9-0-1) opened the scoring in the 52nd minute on Maddie Feist's sixth goal of the campaign to put the home side ahead.

Denver out-shot UC Riverside 12-5 in the match, putting seven of its 12 shots on target on Friday night. Four different Pioneers took two shots in the match, including freshman Natalie Beckman (Denver, Colo.), who put both of her shots on target.
