DENVER – The Denver Pioneers men's hockey team is ranked 9th in the USCHO.com preseason poll, as released on Monday.
The Pioneers received 552 points in the USCHO.com preseason poll on a ballot submitted by 50 voters, including coaches, beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. Five (5) NCHC schools cracked the Top 20 with Minnesota Duluth at No. 1 (982 points), St. Cloud State at No. 6 (697 points), North Dakota at No. 11 (437 points) and Western Michigan at No. 19 (109 points).
Denver is set to open the regular season on Friday, Oct. 12 vs. Air Force. The Pioneers return 15 student-athletes from the 2017-18 season, including senior captain
Colin Staub, senior alternate captain
Jarid Lukosevicius and sophomore alternate captain
Ian Mitchell. Denver enters the season with six (6) NHL draft picks, five of whom are incoming freshmen. Last season, the Pioneers finished 23-10-8 (12-6-6-4 NCHC), made their 11
th consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament and became the first two-time winners of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff.
