Box Score Kalamazoo, Mich. – The No. 4 Denver Pioneers (14-6-3, 6-6-1-1) fell to the No. 13 Western Michigan Broncos (15-8-1, 8-5-1-1) 5-1 on Saturday in Lawson Arena, dropping their second-straight game for the first time since Nov. 9-10, 2018 at St. Cloud State and only their second time this season.
Western Michigan went 2/5 on the power play, 7/8 on the penalty kill and scored three goals in the first period to defeat Denver for the fourth-straight time on home ice. Despite the loss, the Pioneers outshot the Broncos, 37-34.

David Carle said. "I thought we played better tonight than we did last night, we played with more of urgency. I give Western Michigan a lot of credit, they're a really good hockey team."
The Pioneers ceded three goals in the first period including two on the power play. The barrage started with Josh Passolt's one-timer from the slot at 5:59, continued 40 seconds later with Cam Lee feeding Paul Washe for a shot from the same area and finished with Drew Worrad burying the rebound from Colt Conrad's shot at the side of the net.
Western Michigan made it 4-0 as Austin Rueschoff fed Cam Lee for a back-door tap-in at 8:42 of the second period, then chased

Michael Corson only 30 seconds later as Dawson Dipietro capitalized on a net-front scramble. Denver's few offensive chances were thwarted by Trevor Gorsuch, allowing the Broncos to carry a 5-0 lead into the second intermission.
Emilio Pettersen ruined Gorscuh's shutout bid on the power play at 4:24 of the third period.
Larsson made 19 saves in 29:12. Corson made 10 saves in 30:48. The teams combined for 48 penalty minutes.
