DU Moves Up on Final Day of Arizona Intercollegiate

McCoy ties for 36th
TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Denver golf team got solid play on Tuesday, finishing up the Arizona Intercollegiate. The Pioneers posted a final-round team score of 287, 3-over-par.
The Crimson and Gold moved up one spot to take 15th in the tournament.
Par for the 7,292-yard course was 71 at the Sewailo Golf Club.
Head coach Erik Billinger went with the lineup of Esteban Missura, Cal McCoy, Jackson Solem, Eric Hagen and John Sand.
Arizona took home the team title after a blistering final round score of 21-under to overtake No. 11 Arizona State by three strokes.
Texas A&M standout Chandler Phillips lock up individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 19-under.
"The guys battled today and at one point we really had it going," Billinger said. "Everyone shot between 71 and 73 and we are right there but just need to clean up some mistakes and make more putts. I'm proud of freshman Cal [McCoy], for leading us this week as his hard work over the winter break really showed.
"Everyone else showed some signs of improvement from their hard work over the break as well. Everyone is extremely motivated and we will work really hard for our next event in a couple of weeks in Palm Springs."
McCoy was the low finisher for DU, tying for 34th with a two-day total of 213, even par. The former Regis standout was pretty consistent his three rounds on the course, posting two rounds at par or better.
Missura and Sand each finished up the day tied in 51st after putting up a pair of 1-over 72s on the day, bringing their total to 216 (3-over).
Solem closed out his afternoon in a tie for 59th at 6-over, moving up eight spots from Monday.
Hagen ended his tournament tied for 68th.
The Crimson and Gold return to action for the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Feb. 22.
