MIAMI – The University of Denver women's swimming and diving program responded from its first dual loss of the season on Friday with one of its top performances of the season, a 133-77 victory over Tulane in the second session of the 2019 Dual-A-Pool-Ooza Saturday morning at Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
Denver won five events overall in the meet (FIU, Tulane, Rice) and earned seven event wins in its dual against Tulane.
The Pioneers once again opened up the meet with a medley relay victory, this time in the 200 as the quartet of sophomore
Natalie Arky (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), sophomore
Brandi Vu (Longmont, Colo.), senior
Kylie Cronin (Marblehead, Mass.) and senior
Sarah Lingen (Maple Grove, Minn.) combined for a 1:44.29.
After surrendering a point of their lead in the second event, the Pioneers took first, third and fifth in the dual in the 200 fly to stretch their lead to 15. Cronin led all swimmers in the meet with her 2:01.15. Senior
Josie Valette (Boulder, Colo.) took third with a 2:02.57 to earn Denver three more points.
Denver took three of the top five spots once again in the 100 free, led by Lingen's 52.79 to take the top spot in the dual. Junior
Aysia Leckie (Georgetown, Ontario) earned three points for the Pioneers with her third place finish in 53.16 to help extend Denver's lead through the fourth event to 48-26.
Freshman
Sofia Nosack (Beaverton, Ore.) continued her impressive first season with the Pioneers with her third win of the year in the 200 back, out-swimming all three teams with a 2:02.27. Arky took second in the dual with a 2:03.10 and sophomore
Livi Schmid (Fairfax Station, Va.) helped Denver win the event 16-3 with her 2:04.32 to take third.
Vu outswam the other three teams in the field with her 1:03.56 in the 100 breast to take the top spot in both the meet and the dual before Denver took another dual podium sweep in the 50 fly courtesy of Valette's 24.84, Cronin's 25.66 and junior
Deniz Ozkan's (Istanbul, Turkey) 26.00.
The Pioneers capped off the dual with a victory in the 200 free relay. Valette, Lingen, freshman
Erika Remington (Cedarburg, Wis.) and Leckie combined for a time of 1:35.79 in the victory.
