Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Niko Blankenship

Denver and Tulsa Finish Level at 1-1

The Pioneers return home Saturday to take on Summit League foe Omaha at 7 p.m. MT

TULSA – The University of Denver men's soccer team shared the spoils with Tulsa, 1-1, in a midweek non-conference match at Hurricane Stadium on Tuesday night.

"The program is about bringing the best version of yourself everyday," head coach Jamie Franks said. "I think the biggest thing that we've been missing this season is our mentality. At times, we've just been going through the motions. When you watch a game like tonight, when everyone plays their role, we are a very, very, good team. We need to learn how to close games out, but I was very proud of the resiliency the group showed.

"After the goal, we were on the front foot in both overtimes and were unlucky to not find a winner. Overall, my group continues to get better and grow. With 16 underclassmen, there's been a lot of learning this season. For me, I'm super proud. I'm excited to watch them in a must win game at home on Saturday for Alumni night. We know our alumni, parents and everyone else that supports the program can be proud of this group and how they've approached the adversity that this season has presented."

Junior forward Preston Judd (Henderson, Nev.) smashed his fourth goal of the season and the 26th goal of his collegiate career off the inside of the near post and into the back of the net to put the Pioneers ahead in the 49th minute. The junior transfer beat one defender 10 yards outside the box and dribbled past another at the top of the D to free himself for the strike.

Tulsa equalized in the 86th minute off a goal from Harris Partain. Adam Habib found Partain down the right, who put his shot past redshirt-sophomore Kobe Gray (Parker, Colo.) for the leveler. Gray made six saves in his second collegiate start on Tuesday night.

The Pioneers outshot the Golden Hurricane 7-4 in the opening 45 minutes and held a 3-2 edge in corners. Judd and redshirt-junior Dylan Keeney (Littleton, Colo.) struck DU's two shots on target in the first half.

Denver's Connor McWilliams (Littleton, Colo.) was the closest to the first-half breakthrough, finding the back of the net in the 19th minute, but the Pioneer sophomore was ruled offside on the set-piece.

In total, Denver and Tulsa shared the 28 shots 14 apiece and the Pioneers took six of the 11 corners.
