Denver Falls to [RV/27] Rhode Island in Extra Time

The Pioneers will conclude the 2019 regular season at Purdue Fort Wayne next Saturday at 5 p.m. MT

DENVER – The University of Denver men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 result to [RV/27] Rhode Island in extra time on Saturday night at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.

"I'm disappointed in the result," head coach Jamie Franks said. "We continue to beat ourselves. In knockout games, you can't gift the team goals. We really need to take a hard look at ourselves and figure out what we want out of this season because we are in a must win game on Saturday."

Freshman Kengo Ohira (Tokyo, Japan) netted his third goal of the season in the loss, cutting from the left channel into the center of the park before burying his strike into the side netting to equalize for the Pioneers in the 56th minute.

Rhode Island opened the scoring in the fifth minute through Stavros Zarokostas' fifth goal of the season. The Rams got the winner in the 98th minute when Derick Arhin dunked a Peder Kristiansen corner for his first in 2019.
