Feller’s Brace Sends Denver Back to the Summit League Final

The Pioneers will play the winner of South Dakota State and Oral Roberts Saturday at 12 p.m. CT/11 a.m. MT

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Sophomore Sami Feller (Grand Junction, Colo.) netted her second brace of the season against North Dakota and recorded the fourth multi-goal match of her career to send the University of Denver women's soccer team to its third-straight Summit League Final after a 3-0 win over the Fighting Hawks on Thursday afternoon at Fishback Soccer Park.

Denver will play in its 14th Division I conference final, improving to 13-3-2 in league semifinals on Thursday. The Pioneers will play the winner of No. 2 South Dakota State and No. 3 Oral Roberts Saturday at 12 p.m. CT/11 a.m. MT.

With temperatures in the teens with the wind chill, neither team was able to find its footing in the opening 45 minutes. Both teams got chances, but couldn't find the quality of contact to open the scoring.

Denver came back into the frigid elements out of the locker room knowing a goal would make it feel just a little warmer out, and the Pioneers got one early in the second half as Feller gave Denver the lead in the 48th minute with a 1v1 finish off a feed from 2019 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year Cheyenne Shorts (Denver, Colo.). Shorts played her third assist of the season and the seventh of her career from well inside her own half, finding the well-timed run of Feller for the opener.

Junior Meg Halvorson (Englewood, Colo.) created Feller's second, running to the endline in the right channel before cutting the ball back across the six-yard box to the run of Feller. Halvorson tallied her third assist of the season and the ninth of her three-year Pioneer career.

Approaching the midway point of her collegiate career, Feller now has 17 career goals, including eight in her 2019 campaign.

Denver's third goal came off a North Dakota defender in the 86th minute to extend the Pioneers lead.

The cleansheet for senior goalkeeper Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) is her eighth solo shutout of the campaign and the Pioneers 12th as a team this season. Wilson also became the fourth goalkeeper in Denver's Division I history to reach 40 career wins in the semifinal result.
