DENVER – The University of Denver ski team has been represented well in the early season World Cups.
Â
Highlighting the start of the World Cup season was senior
Storm Klomhaus who made her World Cup debut in the giant slalom in Soelden, Austria.
Â
Junior
Amelia Smart and sophomore
Simon Fournier began their seasons with a start in the World Cup slaloms in Levi, Finland.Â
Â
In Killington, DU was represented by four women, Klomhaus in the giant slalom,
Katie Hensien,
Andrea Komsic, and Smart in the slalom. Smart missed qualifying for a second run by only .03 of a second, finishing the first run in 31
st place.
Â
Sophomore
Tristan Lane began his preparation by getting in some good speed training by forerunning the Men's World Cup in Lake Louis, Canada and again in Beaver Creek, Colo.
Â
Joining Lane in the forerunning at Beaver Creek was junior
Jett Seymour who kicked off each run of the giant slalom.
Â
Denver alumni also lit up the scoreboard in the giant slalom in Beaver Creek. From Norway,
Leif Haugen took home 3
rd place and Canadian
Trevor Philp skied to 6
th. Canadian
Erik Read was also sitting pretty in 14
th after the first run but failed to find the finish line on the second run. Read finished 7
th in the World Cup giant slalom last month in Soelden, so the speed is there.
