BOULDER, Colo. – The University of Denver women's basketball team dropped to 5-5 on the season after falling 96-70 to Colorado in the CU Events Center Thursday night.
Freshman
Uju Ezeudu, senior
Madison Nelson and redshirt junior
Briana Johnson each tallied a team-high tying 12 points in the loss. Ezeudu and Nelson each grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
After the teams traded baskets early, Colorado jumped out to a 19-10 lead after back-to-back 3s by Emma Clarke to force a Denver timeout. Junior
Alexius Foster hit a three out of the timeout that ended a 1:27 10-0 Colorado run to bring Denver within six. Denver's deficit was cut to nine after Johnson finished a layup with three seconds to go, giving the Buffalos a 32-23 lead after the opening quarter.
Just 25 seconds into the second quarter, senior
Lauren Loven knocked down a three to close the gap to six, 32-26. The Buffalo defense held Denver without a field goal for the last 6:20 of the half and headed to halftime up 55-29.
DU came out of the break and knocked down its first three shots to make the score 59-36 in favor of Colorado, but the Buffs took an 80-53 edge into the final 10 minutes.Â
