BERKELEY – The University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated Cal 13-4 in Berkeley on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers improved to 2-0 on the year, while the Bears dropped to 0-2.
Sophomore
Bea Behrins led the offensive brigade with five of Denver's 13 goals, beating out her previous high (three) set on April 13, 2018 against Villanova.
"We had a great swing through California," said head coach
Liza Kelly. "Both games provided us with a number of learning opportunities. I am excited to get back to work and prepare for our home-opener against Louisville!"
Pioneer Performers:
Behrins notched five goals in five shots for the Pioneers, followed by
Hannah Liddy and
Quintin Hoch-Bullen who each put away two. Senior
Elizabeth Behrins tallied six ground balls and caused five turnovers.
Carson Gregg held down the backend of the field, playing all 60-minutes and recording five saves with a .556 save percentage.
Caution: Offense at Work:
Denver opened the game on a four-goal run, before allowing Cal to slip one by with 11:45 left in the half.
The Pioneers tallied 35 shots against the Bears, 23 in the first half, and held them to only 13 total shots in the game. The Crimson and Gold also forced Cal into 27 turnovers.
What's Next:
The Pioneers will host Louisville on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. MT for their 2019 home opener.
