DENVER– The [13/16] University of Denver women's lacrosse team upset [6/4] Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon, taking down the Seawolves 11-7 in Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. This mark's as head coach
Liza Kelly's first victory over a top-five team in either poll since coming to Denver in 2006.
The Pioneers improved to 4-0 on the year, handing Stony Brook (1-1) its first loss of the season.
"This was a great team win," said Kelly. "Stony Brook gave us a run for our money, but we worked all week and today we saw the results we wanted. Our bench was loud the entire competition, and being at home in our comfortable environment was a huge advantage. We'll celebrate today, but tomorrow we get back to work."
