BOILING SPRINGS – The No. 11 University of Denver women's lacrosse team took down Gardner-Webb 20-2 on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers improved to 7-1 on the season, while the Runnin' Bulldogs dropped to 3-4.
The Crimson and Gold took off right out of the gate, going on a 19-goal run until GWU was finally able to tab its first with 15-minutes left in the second half. The 20-goals in the contest are tied for 9th all-time in Denver single game records, also posting 20 earlier this year against Fairfield on March 8.
Pioneer Performers:
Quintin Hoch-Bullen led the team with four goals,
Eliza Radochonski followed with three while five Pioneers tallied two (
Molly Little,
Julia Feiss,
Elizabeth Behrins,
Kailee Lammers and
Kayla DeRose).
Maddie Baum nearly broke her own record of 16-draw controls in a single game, posting 15 against the Runnin' Bulldogs. She set the school record last year against Niagara on March 10.
Hannah Liddy recorded five assists on Denver's 20-goals, in addition to her two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Team Comparison:
The Pioneers out-shot GWU 36-8 for their seventh victory this season, including totaling 29 shots on goal, two saves, 20 draw controls, and 15 caused turnovers.
Gardner-Webb posted four shots on goals, nine saves, three draw controls, and five caused turnovers.
New Contributions:
Kayla DeRose's two goals served as the first of her collegiate debut.
Alexa DiCaprio saw time in goal for the first time, totaling a little over 11-minutes in net.
Madeleine Mason also saw her first minutes on the field for the Pioneers, posting two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
What's Next:
The Pioneers will remain on the road for the next two contests, facing Virginia Tech on Sunday, March 17 at 10 a.m. MT and Colorado on Tuesday, March 26 at 4 p.m. MT.
