Valette Breaks Own School Record in 200 Fly at 2019 NCAA Championships

Josie Valette closes out her 2019 NCAA Championships with a 36th place finish in Austin
AUSTIN, Texas – University of Denver women's swimming junior Josie Valette (Boulder, Colo.) broke her own school record by 0.90 seconds in the 200 fly (1:57.01) on Saturday morning to take 36th at the 2019 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.
Friday morning, Valette finished 37th (52.66) in the 100 fly.
A year ago, Valette set the school record in the 200 fly with a 1:57.91 at the 2018 Summit League Championships. In the 2018 postseason, Valette finished fourth in the 100 fly (53.63) and sixth in the 200 fly (1:59.73) at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships.
Valette is the third different Denver women's swimmer since the Pioneers rejoined Division I in 1998-99 to swim in the 100 fly at the NCAA Championships and the first to swim in the 200 fly. Samantha Corea swam in the 100 fly in both 2014 and 2015, finishing ninth in the finals of 2014 (51.62) and second in the 2015 finals (50.86). Morgan McCormick swam in the 100 fly at the NCAA Championships in both 2017 (48th/53.72) and 2018 (45th/53.84).
Next week, men's swimming sophomore Cameron Auchinachie (Binghamton, N.Y.) will swim at the men's championship March 27-30, taking part in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free.
