DENVER – The No. 15 University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated Marquette 21-11 in Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Friday night. The Pioneers improved to 12-2 on the year, and remain a perfect 4-0 in BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles fell to an 8-8 (2-2 BIG EAST) mark.
With the win, the Pioneers clinched a share of the BIG EAST regular-season title. The No. 1 seed going into the BIG EAST Tournament will be determined after the Crimson and Gold take on Villanova next Friday, April 26.
"The class of 2019 is a truly special group of young women," said head coach
Liza Kelly. "I am so happy that we were able to start and finish the game with all 10 seniors on the field. They have truly helped define that Denver Lacrosse is a caring family-first atmosphere that excels in both the classroom and on the field, and puts the overall experience of everybody over that of the individual."
BIG EAST Success:
Having already clinched a spot in the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament, the Pioneers look for their first BIG EAST post-season victory, having fallen to Florida in the championship game in both 2017 and 2018.
Denver remains the only undefeated team in the conference, and is set to face No. 3 Villanova (2-1 BIG EAST) in the final regular season game of the year. If the Pioneers defeat Villanova, they will complete a perfect conference regular season for the first time since 2014 when they went 9-0 in the MPSF.
Pioneer Performers:
Eliza Radochonski was a force to be reckoned with, totaling a career high six goals, her first sock trick. The five-foot-nine sophomore also earned a career high eight points and went 1-1 on free position shots.

Denver totaled 33 shots, 20 ground balls, 14 draws, 16 caused turnovers and went 20-23 on clears. The Crimson and Gold limited the Golden Eagles to just 20 shots, 12 ground balls and eight turnovers.
Tonight's victory served as the fourth time the Pioneers have posted 20+ goals in a game this season, having defeated Fairfield 20-4, Gardner-Webb 20-2 and Old Dominion 20-1. The 21 goals against Marquette is tied for fifth in the Denver all-time single game records.
Timeline:
The Pioneers kicked off the contest with the first six goals, three coming from seniors on their senior night (Feiss, Schreck & Lanuza). Marquette tabbed its first goal of the evening at the 18-minute mark, and quickly put another past Gregg just one minute later. Denver went on a four-goal run before Marquette was able to stop it, totaling three in a row for themselves. The Crimson and Gold wrapped up the half with three more, sitting at 13-5 when the buzzer sounded.
Marquette opened the second half with back-to-back goals.
Bea Behrins broke their run with her third goal of the night, sneaking one past the Golden Eagle's goalie on a free position shot. After several minutes of back and forth play, the Pioneers began to capitalize at the 12-minute mark, scoring five of the last six goals in the contest.
What's Next:
The Pioneers will wrap up the 2019 regular season on the road against Villanova on April 26 at 5 p.m. MT. Denver will then travel to the BIG EAST Tournament on May 2-4.
