DENVER – University of Denver men's golfers John Sand and Esteban Missura have been named co Summit League Golfers of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. Sand and Missura both tied for eighth place at last weekend's BYU PING Cougar Classic.

This marks the first time both players have won the award in their careers.

Sand, a sophomore from Washington, led the Pioneers in round one, firing a four-under 68 with three birdies and one eagle. He repeated the performance in round two with another 68 and then rounded out the tournament with a three-over 75.

"John and Esteban both are well deserving of this honor of Summit Player of the Week," head coach Erik Billinger said, "John has worked extremely hard this year and I am so proud of his commitment to excellence in all areas of his life and golf, and his play last week was a testament to his work ethic."

Missura also recorded a 68 in round one, thanks to seven birdies. The redshirt freshman responded with a one-under 71 in round two and ended the tournament with an even par 72. He recorded 13 birdies throughout the 54 holes of the tournament.  

"Esteban has played very solid this spring season and at BYU he showed how good he is with another top-10 finish in a great field," Billinger said. "We are proud of both John and Esteban and look forward to continued success the rest of the season."

Up Next: Denver will return to action next weekend at the Summit League tournament in Newton, Kansas beginning on April 28.
