[16] Pioneers Defeat [22] Georgetown

WASHINGTON D.C. – The No. 16 University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated No. 22 Georgetown 12-9 on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers improved to 10-2 (2-0 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Hoyas dropped to 7-5 (1-1).

Quintin Hoch-Bullen led the Pioneers to their second consecutive BIG EAST win, tallying four goals and one assist. Her five points in the contest propelled her to 100 career points, a feat earned in just 32 games over two seasons.

"This was a great way to start off the spring quarter," said head coach Liza Kelly. "We had big games from a few key individuals and played a great second half! On to Fresno and Butler!"

Pioneer Performers:
Along with Hoch-Bullen's four goals, Bea Behrins and Julia Feiss each posted a hat trick to take down the Hoyas. Elizabeth Behrins and Eliza Radochonski totaled the remaining two goals.

Carson Gregg was a huge contributor in the Pioneers' victory, spending all 60-minutes in net, totaling 10 saves.

Molly Little also served as an asset to the Crimson and Gold, snatching up a career-high 11 draw controls on top of three caused turnovers.

By The Numbers:
Denver totaled 24 shots, 16 ground balls, 14 draws, nine caused turnovers and 10 saves to remain perfect in conference play this season. The Hoyas tallied 24 shots, 19 ground balls, nine draws, 15 caused turnovers and seven saves.

The Crimson and Gold's 2-0 start in BIG EAST play is the best by the team since joining the conference back in 2017.

Timeline:
Strong defense kept both sides from scoring for the first 11 minutes of the contest, until a Georgetown attacker finally tabbed the first goal of the game. Hoch-Bullen responded less than two minutes later and was quickly followed by Bea Behrins, giving Denver its first lead of the day at 2-1. After several minutes of back and fourth on both sides of the field, Georgetown took a 5-4 lead into halftime.

The Hoyas were first on the board in the second half, but Denver went on a four-goal run to lead 8-6 with 18 minutes remaining, the Pioneers' largest lead of the game. The Hoyas posted one more, but Denver began to run away with it when they put away four in a row, leading 12-7. Georgetown scored twice more, bringing the final score to 12-9.

The Pioneers will return home to Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Thursday, April 11 to face Fresno State at 2 p.m. MT.
