Denver’s Great Season Comes to End at NCAA Regional

McCoy tied for 21st for the Pioneers
STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Denver men's golf team saw its great season come to a close on Wednesday at the NCAA Stanford Regional. The Pioneers posted a team score of 284, 4-over-par.
The Crimson and Gold wrapped up the tournament in 12th in the 13-team field.
Par for the 6,727-yard course was 70.
Head coach Erik Billinger went with the lineup of Cal McCoy, Esteban Missura, John Sand, Carson Griggs and Eric Hagen.
The top five teams and individual not on those teams will advance on the NCAA Championships.
No. 12-ranked Stanford won the regional at 23-under, 12 strokes ahead of the nearest competition.
"This concludes a season where we have made great progress," Billinger said. "We are proud of the guys finishing strong with a round of 284. Individually, what a great season from Cal McCoy. We are proud of him for finishing tied for 21st. This team is special and is going to keep on getting better."
McCoy jumped up three spots into 21st at 2-over.
Missura closed out his three-day tournament tied for 60th.
Griggs had his best round of the event on Wednesday, shooting a 3-over 73, putting him in a tie for 67th.
Sand wrapped up his tournament in 72nd.
Hagen ended up in 74th.
Denver returns to action in the fall.
