Lawrence, Kansas - The No. 44 Denver Pioneers women's tennis team (17-6, 5-0) fell to the No. 14 Kansas Jayhawks in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday in Lawrence, Kansas.
#64 Anastasia Rychagova/Sonia Smagina started the match with a 6-2 win against
Anna Riedmiller/
Hada Chang at No. 2 doubles, then Maria Toran Ribes/Malkia Ngounoue defeated
Bianca Mok/
Arisha Ladhani 6-3 at No. 3 doubles to give Kansas the team point.
Leading 1-0, the Jayhawks continued to perform on the singles courts where Maria Toran Ribes shutout Chang 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6, Plobrung Plipuech topped
Tatum Burger 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 and Nina Khmelnitckaia finished the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win against
Camille Verden-Anderson at No. 5. No. 97 Mok took a set from No. 13 Anastasia Rychagova at No. 1 and Riedmiller took a set from #112 Janet Koch at No. 2.
