CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The University of Denver golf team got recognized for its terrific work in the classroom this past season. The Pioneers had five players on the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars list for 2018-19 in a release on Monday by the WGCA.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and competed in at least 50 percent of regular-scheduled tournaments throughout the year.
Sophie Newlove,
Mary Weinstein,
Camille Enright,
Alyson Bean and
Trussy Li made the list for their success in the classroom last season.
"What an honor for Sophie, Mary, Camille, Alyson, and Trussy," assistant coach
Mikayla Tatman said. "Being named to the WGCA All-American Scholar list is not an easy task. Our ladies work incredibly hard all year, in the classroom and on the course, and this is a terrific culmination of that hard work.
"Coach Kuhle and I are just so proud of these five. To travel week in and week out and still excel in the classroom is something to be proud of. They continue to raise the bar, academically and athletically, and that is what our program is all about."
Denver as a team posted its best team GPA in program history in 2018-19, finishing with a 3.738.
For Newlove, this marks the fourth straight year of making the list, becoming just the fifth Pioneer in program history to accomplish the feat. The England native was also a Summit League All-Academic Team selection earlier this summer.
Enright picks up her third selection to the list after another successful year in the classroom and on the course.
Weinstein, a two-time selection, had a perfect 4.0 GPA on the season, also earning her a spot on the Summit League All-Academic Team. The Highlands Ranch native was also a force on the course, earning Summit League Golfer of the Year honors after helping lead the Pioneers to a league championship while while winning the league championship MVP.
Bean and Li make their debut on the list after a strong showing in their first year for DU.
