Denver Welcomes [RV/20] Colorado for Bark in the Park Night Saturday

The Pioneers and Buffs set for Derby clash in second game of men’s and women’s double header

DENVER – Following a three game stretch away from home for the University of Denver women's soccer program, the Pioneers will return home on Saturday night and welcome in-state rival [RV/20] Colorado for the second game of a men's and women's double header on Bark in the Park Night at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The derby clash will kickoff at 7:35 p.m. MT, or 35 minutes following the men's match against SMU that is slated for 5 p.m. MT. Both matches of the doubleheader will be broadcast live on Altitude and streamed on Pioneer Vision.

This weekend will mark the first meeting between the two programs outside of the Colorado Cup since 2014. The competition took a year off this year, but is scheduled to return to the teams' calendars in 2020. Denver won the 2013 Colorado Cup, the only title between five victories for Colorado before Northern Colorado won it in 2017 and Colorado College won it a year ago.

Denver opened the campaign with a 3-0-1 homestand that included a victory over then-24th ranked Texas, the Pioneers first home win over a top-25 team since defeating Portland in the Mile High City in 2003.

Colorado entered the week 6-1-0, coming off an overtime loss at No. 6 Florida State last Thursday. The Buffs will play again this Thursday when they host Northern Colorado for a 4 p.m. MT kickoff.

Saturday marks the 34th all-time meeting between the two programs and the 24th as Division I foes. Denver won a stretch of four in a row (2010-13) and five out of six between 2008 and 2013. The Buffs have won the last seven since upsetting Denver in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Tight games have been a story of this rivalry over the years with 16 of the 24 Division I matches being decided by a goal or less.
