[RV/24] Denver Falls to [11/14] Notre Dame, 1-0

The Pioneers will head back out west next weekend to take on Stanford and California

SOUTH BEND, Ind. The [RV/24] University of Denver men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 result to [11/14] Notre Dame on Sunday night at Alumni Stadium.

"We told our team that resiliency was going to be the most important word this season," head coach Jamie Franks said. "We knew what we were getting into with these games, but we wanted to figure out where we fall short and what we need to work on going forward. The margin of error is just so small. We have to look back at our process for what details we missed and make those corrections to achieve the outcomes this team is capable of. The schedule doesn't get any easier, but we are getting better and have grown from every match. This is a special team, and if we focus on our process, the results will come."

Notre Dame took the lead in the 37th minute as a cross came in from Senan Farrelly that deflected off Denver defender Bailey Heller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and fell right to the feet of Jack Lynn for the finish from just to the right of the penalty spot.

Sunday night marked the first time this season Denver gave up the first goal in a match.

Junior striker Preston Judd (Henderson, Nev.) had the best chance to equalize for the Pioneers in the 56th minute, creating space just outside the penalty area, before beating the keeper from 20 yards out but rattling the crossbar.

Sophomore centerback Callum Stretch (Encino, Calif.) got on the end of another opportunity in the 72nd minute. A free kick 10 yards inside Denver's half bounced off the chest of Heller and fell to Stretch, who turned and took it on the volley, but couldn't keep it under the bar.
