DENVER – Junior defenseman
Ian Mitchell of the No. 4 Denver Pioneers hockey team (15-4-3, 5-3-2-1) has been named NCHC Defenseman of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Mitchell had four points in Denver's sweep of St. Cloud State last weekend. The Calahoo, Alberta native and Chicago Blackhawks prospect had one goal and three assists over the weekend, posting a shorthanded goal and two assists on Friday, then adding an assist on Saturday. Mitchell finished the weekend with five shots, five blocks a +2 rating. He is on a four-game point streak with one goal and five assists.
In his third year with the Pioneers, Mitchell has 75 points (12-63-75), a +38 rating and 42 penalty minutes in 102 games. This season, Mitchell has 18 points (4-14-18) through 22 games to T-10
th among NCAA defensemen.
