DENVER – University of Denver sophomore
Esteban Missura is set to compete in the Latin America Amateur on Thursday. The four-day event will be held at the El Camaleon Golf Club in Mayakoba, Mexico.
Missura will have a friendly face on the bag while he competes, with assistant coach
Brandon Wilkins as his caddie for the biggest tournament in all of Latin America.
It will be televised all four days on the Golf Channel.
The winner of the tournament receives an invitation to the Masters and the British Open.
This marks the sixth time that sophomore has participated in the event, every year it has been in existence.
"I love when our guys compete in the national events and there is nothing better than playing for your country," head coach
Erik Billinger said. "This event is incredible, as it is put on by the Masters, R&A and the USGA. Esteban dreams about winning this tournament and I firmly believe he can do it.
"We are excited for Esteban and we are cheering him on from Denver. Also, Coach Wilkins is with him on the bag and I know they will make a great team and I'm grateful they are together this week."
The Pioneers return to action in the spring for the Mobile Sport Authority Intercollegiate on Feb. 10.
