DENVER - The Denver Pioneers men's tennis team (6-0, 0-0) improved its perfect start to the season with a 6-1 victory against Utah State on Saturday at the Denver Tennis Park.
James Davis and
Matt Summers set the tone for the match with a quick 6-0 win at #1 doubles. Pedro Fernandez del Valle and
Mattia Ros continued the momentum with a 6-4 win at #2 doubles, leaving only three singles victories in the way of the Pioneers' win. The individual victories came in straight sets from
Daniel Krulig at #6 (6-0, 6-2), Davis at #3 (6-1, 6-1) and
Ignacio Rivero Crespo at #5 (6-2, 6-2). Once the match was clinched,
Matt Summers won 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) at #1 and
Ignatius Castelino won 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 at #4.
Denver looks ahead to a matchup at Air Force on Friday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. MT. The Pioneers will return to the Denver Tennis Park on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6:00 p.m. MT against Utah.
