Pios Power Past Oral Roberts for Fourth Straight Win

DENVER – The University of Denver women's basketball team earned its fourth straight win with a 91-79 victory over Oral Roberts on Sunday afternoon in Hamilton Gymnasium.
Senior Madison Nelson led the Pioneers with her 17th double-double of the season and 29th of her career with 25 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Nelson added three blocks and three steals in the win, marking her 12th game this season with three-plus steals and seventh game with three-plus blocks.
Lauren Loven continued her hot shooting with her eighth straight game with multiple 3s, knocking down five for her 10th game with four-plus 3s this year. She finished with a game-high 27 points.
Denver jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after holding Oral Roberts scoreless for the opening 2:48 of the game. Loven scored five of DU's first seven points. After taking a 10-4 lead to the media timeout, the Pioneers finished the final 4:03 of the opening quarter on a 12-6 run.
The Crimson and Gold opened the second quarter hitting 3-of-4 from the field to take a 30-17 advantage, eventually going to the media timeout up 32-25. The Golden Eagles fought back in the second quarter, cutting the Denver lead to four at the half, 40-36, after closing the half on an 11-8 run in the final 4:07.
The Pioneers went back up by double-digits 2:19 into the second half after opening shooting 3-of-4 from the field. Montserrat Brotons hit a jumper for Oral Roberts with 4:43 remaining in the third quarter, tying the game 50-50, the first tie of the game.
The two teams exchanged the lead five times over a 2:49 span before Denver went to the final quarter ahead 64-61.
DU never surrendered the lead in the final quarter, going up by as much as 15 with 2:41 to play to eventually win 91-79.
