NASHVILLE – The [10/11] University of Denver women's lacrosse team ended its four-game win streak on Sunday afternoon, falling to Vanderbilt 14-13 in Nashville.
The commodores improved to 4-2 on the year, handing the Pioneers their first loss of the season as they fell to 4-1 overall.
Denver was led by a hot
Quintin Hoch-Bullen who netted a career-high seven goals while locking in her first-career sock trick, scoring four of Denver's five goals in the second half.
Defensively,
Eliza Hacke forced a team-high two turnovers while
Sam Thacker notched a season-high five ground balls.
Carson Gregg tallied eight saves for DU before
Amelia Cole took things over in goal recording one save to close out the contest.
Caroline Wiseman was the first to see the net for either team scoring less than two minutes into the game. Vanderbilt used three goals to take a 3-2 lead with 22:43 remaining before Hoch-Bullen and
Hannah Liddy continued the scoring affair with a 3-0 Pioneer run to go on top 5-3. Vanderbilt was able to respond with a trio of their own to go ahead 6-5 but Hoch-Bullen,
Bea Behrins and
Julia Gilbert each added goals for the Crimson and Gold to close out the half as they headed into the break leading 8-7.
Coming out hot in the second half,
Sammie Morton and Hoch-Bullen put up three goals in the opening ten minutes of the frame to give Denver their biggest lead of the day at 11-7. Going on a 3-0 tear, Vanderbilt pulled themselves within one at 12-11 with 11:57 remaining. Hoch-Bullen scored her seventh goal of the game with 5:53 to go but it wasn't enough to halt the Vanderbilt momentum as the Commodores used a 3-0 run to close out the contest, scoring the game winner with 3:27 remaining before holding off the Pioneer offense to clinch the 14-13 victory.
