DENVER – The [14/17] University of Denver women's lacrosse team locked in its sixth victory of the season in a 21-11 win over Fairfield on Sunday at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
The Pioneers improve to 6-1 on the year, while the Stags fall to 2-5 overall.
"I thought we had a great offensive day!"
Liza Kelly said. "It was fun to see Caroline explode for six goals. I am really impressed with how many threats we have down there."
The Denver offense was hot throughout the contest, seeing nine different goal scorers in 60 minutes of action.
Caroline Wiseman led the Pioneers with six goals, earning her first career sock trick.
Bea Behrins added four goals, while Hoch-Bullen and
Sammie Morton notched a pair of hat tricks.
Defensively,
Kailee Lammers and
Quintin Hoch-Bullen led the Pios with two ground balls each, while
Eliza Hacke and
Julia Gilbert each caused two turnovers.
Eliza Radochonski put the Pioneers on the board first, less than a minute into the contest, before Wiseman and Morton chipped in goals of their own to stretch the Pio lead to three. A 3-1 Fairfield run threatened the Denver defense, cutting its lead to three at 7-4 but the Crimson and Gold ended the half on a 3-0 run to head into the break leading 10-4.
Despite the Stags striking first in the second half, the Pioneers used three goals early to extend their lead to 13-5. Back-to-back goals from Hoch-Bullen stretched the lead to 17-9 with 13:41 remaining before Wiseman and Milleker struck back-to-back for the Pioneers to close out the game and lock in the 21-11 victory.
DU will play their third straight home game against Coastal Carolina on Wednesday (1 PM MT).
