DENVER – University of Denver Athletics & Recreation has announced the launch of a fundraising campaign to address the unprecedented financial challenges facing the division. The 5280 Together COVID Relief Fund is a yearlong campaign with a goal of raising $1 Million.
 
The funds will go toward supporting divisional operating costs negatively affected by COVID-19, including, but not limited to, academic resources, sports medicine, leadership programming, support for fifth-year student-athletes, nutrition, COVID testing and mental wellness services.
 
Denver Athletics & Recreation is asking alumni, season ticket holders, parents and friends to participate in this once-in-a generation campaign in order to preserve the championship legacies embedded on our campus.
 
DU implemented many cost-saving measures this summer, including, furloughs, layoffs, budget cuts and pay reductions, and will continue to find creative ways to solve the incredible financial challenges faced. The 5280 Together campaign will greatly help close this gap. 
 
"The University of Denver continues to demonstrate that athletic and academic excellence can coexist in extraordinary ways," said Karlton Creech, Vice Chancellor for Athletics & Recreation. "Denver Athletics is not immune to the impact of COVID-19.  Many of our sources of revenue that we use to fund our programs have been severely impacted, and we need Pioneers everywhere now more than ever. Gifts to the 5280 Together COVID Relief Fund will help offset this year's revenue losses and demonstrate that our Pioneer pride, grit and perseverance will have an extraordinary impact on continuing the success story of Denver Athletics."
 
Donors who contribute $5,000 and above will have their names immortalized at the Daniel L. Ritchie Center.  Three-and five-year pledges are accepted and appreciated as this rebuild will take multiple years.
