DENVER – Former University of Denver men's soccer and current Colorado Rapids striker Andre Shinyashiki (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Decade (2010-19).
Shinyashiki tied Denver's DI record with 83 appearances, starting 67 of those matches. In his career, he set program records for points (117), goals (51) and game-winning goals (19). Shinyashiki's senior class entered the 2018 NCAA Tournament second in the country in percentage of points earned at 78.5% (61-11-10).
In his sophomore campaign, Shinyashiki scored nine goals and tallied five assists in the Pioneers run to the 2016 College Cup. Shinyashiki scored twice in a 2-1 win in the Summit League Final over Omaha, scored the game-winner in Denver's 2-1 Round of 16 win over Washington and scored Denver's lone goal in the national semifinal.
Shinyashiki matched his sophomore year goal total in 2017, adding another nine to his career mark to go with four helpers.
In 2018, Shinyashiki put the record book editors to work. Shinyashiki's MAC Hermann Finalist campaign saw the Brazilian score 28 goals in 21 matches, including 11 game-winning goals. He tallied nine multi-goal matches, including the first five hat tricks of his career and a four-goal game in Denver's Summit League opener at Omaha. Shinyashiki finished the campaign first in the country in points per game, points, goals per game, goals and game-winning goals. Following the campaign, Shinyashiki received the 2018 Senior CLASS Award, United Soccer Coaches' First Team All-America honors and CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Shinyashiki didn't stop there, as the former Pioneer was named Major League Soccer's Rookie of the Year in 2019, netting seven goals and adding three assists in 31 matches of his first professional season.
