Beckman Breaks Career Assists Record in 6-1 Win Over Kansas City

Three goals in the final five minutes of the first half separates the Pios in fourth-straight league win to start the campaign

DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team got four goals in the first and added a pair in the second to defeat Kansas City 6-1 on Friday evening at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.

Scoring Summary:
DEN (9-5-0, 4-0-0): Feller 23', Sharp 41', Dannenhauer 42', Murray 45', Glover 59', Dannenhauer 81'
KC (4-11-0, 2-3-0): Jensen 88'

Quotable – Head Coach Jeff Hooker:
"We created some great chances early on and didn't bury them. I appreciated the consistency of the chances that we created and once a goal went in, I think that really freed us up for the rest of the game. There's been times this year after scoring the first goal that we've stopped, but I was really proud of how we continued to push for a second, a third and a fourth in the first half."

First Half:
Denver had 63% possession in the opening 45 minutes, outshot the Roos 14-4 and had a 4-0 edge on the scoreboard at the intermission.

Sami Feller opened the scoring in the 23rd minute off assists from Natalie Beckman and Jordan Crockett. Crockett played a ball over the top of the Roos' back line to the run of Beckman. Beckman took a touch and got her cross off to the back post run of Feller, who tucked it inside the near post for the Denver breakthrough.

Sydney Sharp netted her 10th of the year in the 41st minute to start a stretch of three goals for the Pioneers in the final five minutes. Beckman played the corner from the Denver left. Hannah Gallegos got a touch on the set piece to get it to the ground and Sharp reached double digits on the season from inside the six yard box.

McKenna Dannenhauer's second of the campaign 1:07 later made it 3-0 Pioneers in the 42nd.  Beckman made a long run from the midfield and beat the charging keeper to the ball before touching it off to her teammate Dannenhauer, who knocked it into an open net.

Vanessa Murray got in the goals for the second time this season to make it 4-0 with two seconds left before intermission. Sharp nearly finished her second of the evening, but her shot was stopped by the keeper. The rebound popped out to Dannenhauer at the top of the box, who turned and recycled it backwards to Murray. Murray, hearing the countdown of the clock, ripped a shot from well outside the area and found the bottom right corner to send Denver into the locker room with a comfortable advantage.

Second Half
Glover made it 5-0 in the 59th minute with her seventh goal of the season and the 13th of her career. Gallegos played a ball from Denver's half to Feller at the endline. Feller, dribbled a couple times before getting her cross off on the ground to Glover at the top of the six. Glover calmly re-directed the cross into the back of the net for the Pioneers fifth of the evening.

Dannenhauer made is 6-0 in the 81st minute, weaving back and forth from outside the area into the left side of the 18 before chipping it over the keeper into the side netting of the far post.

Emily Jensen pulled one back for Kansas City in the 88th off a feed from Gabrielle Simms.
