DENVER – The University of Denver men's soccer team got a 78th minute goal from Stefan DeLeone to pull Denver level in a match that ended 1-1 against the visiting Stanford Cardinal on Saturday evening at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.

Inside the Box Score:
Denver had four shots on target to Stanford's three in the 110 minutes, but the Cardinal outshot the Pioneers 11-7 overall. There were 41 fouls called on the night, 22-19 Denver.
First Half:
The two teams played to an even first half, with the Cardinal outshooting the Pioneers 3-2 in the opening 45 minutes, but the Pioneers getting the better quality of chances.
Liam Johnson had the best look for Denver on a back-post run in the 17th minute off a left-wing free kick from Kengo Ohira, but his header was over the bar.
Second Half:
Stanford took advantage of a set-piece opportunity to open the scoring in the 52nd minute. Ousseni Bouda took a free kick from just in-front of his bench down Stanford's attacking right. Bouda's free kick was inside the area to the right of the penalty spot. Keegan Hughes got on the end of it and bounced his header into the bottom right corner for the opener.
The Pioneers responded well after conceding, adding a couple more dangerous chances in the attack before equalizing in the 78th. Ronan Wynne trapped the ball with his foot at chest level and ran 30-yards into the penalty area before earning the Pioneers a spot kick after he was brought down in the box. DeLeone had his penalty saved, but was the first to the rebound and knocked it into the other side of the net to level the match at 1-1 with his third goal of the season.
Up Next:
The Pioneers will return to Summit League play next Saturday with a trip to Tulsa to take on Oral Roberts. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. MT.
